About This Part

Vortex is a Frame Takara Tomy and Hasbro issued for the Burst System, the God Layer System and the SwitchStrike System. It debuted in Japan on March 18, 2017 with the starter God Valkyrie 6Vortex Reboot, then reached western markets through the Star Storm Battle Set. It is a wide, triangular piece with wave-like detailing on each side; its bulk makes it one of the heavier Frames made, pairing well with Core Discs such as 7 and 00 for strong Attack potential.

In Play

The community treats Vortex as a collection piece across Standard, Limited and Classic play, since lighter Core Disc and Frame builds trail the newer Forge Discs, heavier Frames like Bump and Meteor outdo it for Attack use, and the later release of Axe as an improved version leaves little reason to reach for Vortex instead.

  • Reached western countries through the Star Storm Battle Set.

The Competitive View

Its wide shape makes it one of the heavier Frames, boosting Attack potential when paired with heavier Core Discs (2/4/5/7/8) in the combo Legend Spriggan/Sieg Xcalibur 2/4/5/7/8 Vortex Xtreme.

Verdict as the draft gives it: An excellent alternative to the heavier Meteor Frame for Attack combos when Meteor is unavailable; called a welcome addition.

  • Debut: B-73 Starter God Valkyrie 6Vortex Reboot, March 18, 2017
  • Wide, triangular shape with wave details; too small to touch the opponent's layer
