About This Part

Ratchet is a Takara Tomy disc for the Burst System's Gatinko Layer System, a round piece combining a metal core with a plastic piece that locks against a right-spinning opponent and free-spins against a left-spinning one, echoing the gimmick on the Tornado Wyvern layer. It debuted in Japan on April 27th, 2019 with the starter Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen, later reaching western markets as Ratchet-P with Hasbro's Evo Elite Champions Pro Set. In practice the plastic piece is too small to make real contact unless the disc itself touches the layer, so its intended shock-absorption and spin-equalization effect barely registers; it shares its gimmick with Takara Tomy's Hurricane but, unlike Hurricane, spins in only one direction, while its better weight distribution gives it wider use.

In Play

The community finds Ratchet's low-hanging build best suited to spin-equalization in opposite-spin matchups, working well with drivers such as Bearing', Drift, and Mobius, but its floor-scrape risk in same-spin matchups makes Sting the better choice there; it is now outclassed by later Superking-era and newer discs and is recommended mainly for collecting, and is not legal in the WBO's Burst Limited or Classic formats.
