About This Part

Down is a disc Takara Tomy released for the Dual Layer branch of the Burst line, launching in Japan on August 6th, 2016 inside the B-56 Unlock Unicorn Down Needle booster before reaching the west through Hasbro's Dark Doomscizor D2 and Über Unicrest U2 dual pack. It drops away in a shape close to Armed and Vertical, joined to weighted nubs along its lower edge by thin connecting bands, and carries the usual pair of tabbed "D" markings that lock into an Energy Layer. That low, wide build pulls a Beyblade's centre of gravity down, steadying it and pushing much of its mass to the rim for strong stamina and a pronounced flywheel effect in attack builds, though its nubs can drag on the stadium floor once spin slows.

In Play

Down trades some knock-out resistance for stronger burst resistance next to heavier picks like Heavy or Gravity, and offers steadier stability than Spread, but the arrival of SwitchStrike and God-era Core Discs and Disc Frames has pushed it out of serious competitive use, leaving it a collection piece today.

  • Released in Japan August 6th, 2016 with the B-56 Unlock Unicorn Down Needle booster.
  • Brought west through Hasbro's Dark Doomscizor D2 and Über Unicrest U2 dual pack.

The Competitive View

Down's average weight gives it less knockout defense than Heavy or Gravity but more burst resistance, while its low-slung weighted nubs can scrape the floor late in a battle, killing Life-After-Death, yet also brake against knockouts at high spin speed when paired with tips like Claw.

Verdict as the draft gives it: A jack-of-all-trades disc offering better stability and comparable stamina to Spread with better burst resistance than Heavy or Gravity; a welcome addition to any collection.
