About This Part

Wizard is a left-spin Stamina Base Takara Tomy released for the Burst System's Gatinko Layer System, debuting in Japan on April 27th, 2019 as the starter piece Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen. Hasbro brought it west inside the Evo Elite Champions Pro Set, using softer plastic but an otherwise unchanged shape. Following its predecessor Geist Fafnir, it has a triangular outline with three dragon heads along its side profile, each marked with an 'F' for Fafnir, the dwarf-king's son of Norse legend, and carries rubber shaped into those same letters around its rim.

In Play

Against a right-spin opponent the left-spin rotation cuts down on recoil, and while Wizard is turning slower than that opponent the rubber lettering triggers Spin-Equalization, letting the two layers act like meshed gears and share out spin speed between them; the larger exposed rubber area makes this effect stronger than on Drain Fafnir, though a heavier foe blunts it. Against another left-spin part the same rubber works as brakes instead: if the rival has weaker burst resistance the friction can burst it open, but if the rival resists bursting better, that same friction risks bursting or draining Wizard's own combination.

  • Debuted in Japan on April 27th, 2019 as Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen.
  • Released in western countries by Hasbro in the Evo Elite Champions Pro Set.
  • The three 'F' marks on its dragon heads reference Fafnir, a figure from Norse mythology who was the son of the dwarf king Hreidmar.
