Magnacore System

Takara Tomy rolled out the Magnacore System in December 2001 as the third build standard for the line, sitting between the Spin Gear System before it and the later Engine Gear System. A NEO Spin Gear with a hollow centre lets a blader swap in different Cores, including magnetic Magnecores that repel or attract the magnets built into certain stadium floors. Swapping a Standard Spin Gear for the NEO version let even older Spin Gear tops tap into the same magnetic tricks.

What to know

  • Introduced in December 2001, following the Spin Gear System.
  • Six main part types: Bit Chip, Attack Ring, Weight Disk, Blade Base, Core, Spin Gear.
  • Magnecores split into South Pole (boosts attack and speed) and North Pole (boosts defense, lowers rotation) variants.
  • Hasbro largely swapped its non-magnetic Metal Weight Cores for Magnecores; Takara Tomy kept Magnecores as a separate purchase.
