Biography

Zyro Kurogane (Zero Kurogane in Japan) is the hot-headed, friendship-driven protagonist of Beyblade: Shogun Steel, wielding Samurai Ifrit W145CF. Inspired as a boy by watching Gingka Hagane defeat Nemesis, he chases 100 straight wins, loses to rival Shinobu Hiryuin, then trains under Benkei Hanawa to grow stronger. He assembles a loyal crew (Shinobu, Eight and Kite Unabara, Ren Kurenai, Maru), wins the Neo Battle Bladers tournament by out-lasting DNA's Kira Hayama, then storms DNA's Dark Fortress to stop Doji, ultimately redeeming Kira and helping launch the Bridge to the Future tournament.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Zyro's hair is big, spiky and black with a flame-like orange-red streak. The manga gives him pale skin, thick spiked black eyebrows and dark blue eyes, while the anime warms his skin tone and brightens his eyes. His leather jacket carries a lined collar with lime-green zippers and details in the manga, redrawn in a different, indigo-toned shade with golden zippers and darker gloves for the anime. Underneath sits a grey shirt and a lime-green-backed white belt, worn over long, dark-red skinny jeans with spiked cuffs, and purple shoes with orange-red highlights that the anime renders mostly in black. As a young child he was smaller, with less hair, and wore a plainer open jacket, fingerless gloves, a tee-shirt, shorts and small shoes.

Enthusiasm and sheer determination drive Zyro, who dreams of climbing high enough in the sport to stand alongside bladers like Gingka Hagane. Losing does not sink his mood — he shrugs it off and stays glad simply to have fought. He also keeps his word to an unusual degree, honouring a wager in the manga that cost him everything he owned once he lost. His single-minded focus on reaching and battling Gingka leaves him fairly withdrawn socially. He eventually becomes the Neo Battle Bladers Champion and Japan's new top blader, growing stronger through fights against opponents like Sakyo Kurayami and Kira Hayama. Much like Gingka, he tries to turn rivals into better bladers rather than simply beating them, and even after hating Kira for hurting his friends, he set that aside, sought his friendship, and stepped in to save his life after their second battle.

Blader Profile

Zyro Kurogane, rated

  • Attack 9/10
  • Defense 6/10
  • Stamina 7/10
  • Technique 7/10
  • Spirit 10/10

beybladewiki.com editorial rating — based on on-screen performance, not official stats.

A hundred-win streak, Burning Upper and a tournament title won by outlasting Kira, all built on stubborn spirit rather than polish; Gingka still beat him twice.
