Biography

Yoshio Iwayama is a hulking, ruthless member of the villain group DNA in Beyblade: Shogun Steel, partnered with and fiercely loyal to Kira Hayama, whom he protects even at personal risk. He terrorizes young bladers and hunts for Kite Unabara while wielding the defense-type Bandit Golem, initially clashing with Kite's brother Eight (who impersonates Kite) before facing and defeating the real Kite despite the latter's late-game power surge. He is eventually bested by Zyro Kurogane's Samurai Ifrit and later by Shinobu Hiryūin and synchrome opponent Sakyo Kurayami as the DNA storyline escalates.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Bulk defines Yoshio: he is built on an enormous scale, with arms so heavily muscled that they look out of proportion next to his comparatively slim legs, and he towers over the rest of his team. His skin is tanned, and curly green hair — mostly hidden beneath a loose pilot's helmet and goggles — matches his thin green eyebrows above small pink eyes. He favours a torn purple t-shirt, rosewood fingerless gloves tucked into gold-trimmed wristbands, snug brown trousers held up by a belt and grey suspenders with matching gold buckles, and light brown boots that stop just below the knee.

Yoshio shows little mercy to anyone in his way, and his opening attack on the group of young bladers made that plain. At the same time he is willing to adapt his approach, chasing down Kite Unabara by whatever means present themselves, even squaring off against Eight after Eight claimed to be Kite. His deepest loyalty runs toward Kira, whom he shields closely and whose failures visibly trouble him. Raised alongside Kira after the pair were taken in and trained by the Garcias to fight for DNA, he later used that training to intimidate other bladers, and he carried out Kira's orders to wreck opponents' Beys without hesitation.
