Biography

Mariam is the Saint Shields' sharp-tongued strategist, Joseph's older sister, and the clan member who takes longest to accept that the Bladebreakers deserve what they hold. Her shark Sharkrash attacks in slashing waves, and she pairs with Joseph to ambush Max and Ray. Her rivalry is with Max: she beats him first, ties with him later, and in the clan's decisive match loses to him on purpose. Trapped with him after an avalanche, she works out that the game is meant to be enjoyed rather than controlled, and gives up on taking bit-beasts. She is serious enough to spend most of her time shouting at Joseph and Dunga for slacking and motherly enough to let Dunga cry it out after a bad loss, thoroughly sarcastic with an enemy in front of her, and openly happy only about food — apples especially. She and Joseph blade King and Queen in the World Championship.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Long blue hair in a high ponytail and sharp green eyes, in the women's version of the Saint Shields' uniform.

With Ozuma, the most serious of the Saint Shields, and the one most likely to be shouting at Joseph and Dunga for slacking. She is also the one who looks after them: after Dunga lost a battle badly she told him it was one match and it did not matter, and let him cry it out. She and her younger brother Joseph team up against the harder opponents and are difficult to handle together. Food is the one thing that makes her openly happy, apples especially, and with an enemy in front of her she is thoroughly sarcastic.

Saint Shields

A second hooded stranger picks up the Bladebreakers' trail early in the season, tracking Max to an American alley and beating him with a Sharkrash he never sees coming. Back with the Saint Shields, Mariam watches from a distance while the clan works to seal away Draciel and the other bit-beasts, and she and Max meet again for a match that ends in a tie neither can explain. An avalanche traps them together soon after, and it is there she decides the sport is meant to be enjoyed rather than owned. When the Saint Shields make their last stand against the Bladebreakers, she throws the deciding match to Max on purpose, and enters the championship at Joseph's side, their run ending when King and Queen break both of their blades.

Briefing

What to know

  • Older sister of fellow Saint Shield Joseph; the two frequently tag-team together.
  • Fights with the basic tall-base Beyblade Sharkrash, never upgrading to a Magnacore blade.
  • One of the 'hooded bladers' sent to steal the Bladebreakers' four bit-beasts.
  • Defeats Max Tate in their first match, using Sharkrash's invisible bit-beast to catch him off guard.
  • Bonds with Max after being trapped together in a rockslide, leading her to give up trying to steal bit-beasts.
  • Deliberately loses the Saint Shields' final match against Max to end the conflict peacefully.
  • Motherly toward teammates Dunga and Joseph despite her stern demeanor.
  • Fond of food, especially apples, one of the few things that reliably makes her happy.
