Biography

This is the manga continuity's version of Kyoya, covering the same arc as the anime but compressed and reordered. He starts as the Face Hunters' leader, loses to Gingka in their first duel, and hands over his Leone in a show of respect that begins their friendship. He customizes his bey into Rock Leone for Battle Bladers, is crippled fighting Ryuga in the semifinals, and rallies everyone's spirit to help Gingka evolve Pegasus into Galaxy Pegasis. After Big Bang Bladers he tires of always supporting Gingka from the sidelines and enters the solo Ultimate Bladers tournament to prove himself, evolving into Fang Leone but still losing to his rival.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Slim but muscular for his average height, he spikes his hair high with a trailing ponytail, and a cross-shaped scar marks the skin beneath each sharp eye. His first look pairs a tattered black shirt, torn open at the stomach, with three necklaces strung from stolen Beyblades, reduced to two once Doji's attack on the hideout costs him one. After the Face Hunters disband and he starts over, the necklaces go, swapped for a ripped sleeveless jacket over a shirt with its own sleeves torn off, plus baggy ripped jeans and boots. Following the events of Big Bang Bladers the hairstyle stays but the clothes change again: an unzipped sleeveless hoodie over a cropped tank top, fingerless gloves and a signature necklace kept on, a new left armband, and fresh unripped jeans worn with a double belt.

Cruelty and swagger define his first chapter as leader of the Face Hunters, a gang built around dominating beyblading in his city. Losing to Gingka and rediscovering what fans call his Blader's Spirit turns that around: he disbands the gang and retrains, coming out fiercer in battle but far more deserving of respect, driven now by genuine love of the sport rather than conquest. Trust comes easier afterwards, and he has no patience for anyone who hurts people close to him — the old temper still simmers, but he learns to direct it instead of letting it run wild. His bond with Gingka never wavers, yet he still wants his own identity, eventually stepping out of that friendship to lead on his own terms, earning the nickname King of Beasts.

Ferocious pride and a Leone rebuilt arc after arc keep him near the top, yet Ryuga, Masamune and Gingka all beat him when it counts.

Briefing

What to know

  • The manga-only "Ultimate Bladers" arc has Kyoya competing solo to step out of Gingka's shadow, unlike the anime.
  • Loses his Battle Bladers semifinal against Ryuga only when the collapsing stadium lets L-Drago claw its way free.
  • Rallies the beaten bladers' collective spirit to power Gingka's Pegasis into Galaxy Pegasis for the final battle with Ryuga.
  • Inherits his father's industrial company in the Zero-G/Shogun Steel manga, mirroring Kai's original-series ending.
  • His special move "Mountain-Slicing Breaker" (獅子崩山破) is manga-exclusive, developed while training in the mountains with Benkei.
  • Ends the Ultimate Bladers arc crying alone after losing to Gingka despite his full reinvention.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • Unlike the anime, the manga has Kyoya befriend Gingka immediately after their very first battle, skipping the slower rivalry build-up.
  • The manga adds an entire "Ultimate Bladers" singles tournament not present in the anime, giving Kyoya his own definitive arc.
