Biography
Gary — Gaou in Japan — is the White Tigers' powerhouse, a huge, slow-talking blader whose bear bit-beast Galzzly fights the way he does, head-on and with overwhelming force; he and Kevin are the two without one of the clan's feline spirits. He is gentle outside the dish, famously preoccupied with his next meal — he has lost battles to the distraction — and quietly devoted to Mariah, whose lead he follows. He is dangerous the moment he is provoked, and turning anger into power is his one specialty. His Asian final against Max is brute force against pure defence, and it sets the tone for the rest of the series. Black Dranzer takes Galzzly off him in Russia along with the rest of the team's, and Tyson's win in the final gets it back; he returns in a supporting role for G-Revolution's BEGA arc.
Personality
How They Behave
The muscle of the White Tigers, blading Galzzly and taking his orders mostly from Mariah. He and Kevin are the two without a cat for a bit-beast; his is a bear. He loves food enough to have thrown a battle or two over it, and for all his size he keeps to himself. His one specialty is turning anger into power.

Etymology
Where the Name Comes From
His Japanese name, Gao, is an animal sound like Mariah's and Kevin's — a bear's growl. The same syllable can carry the sense of tall, which suits him.

Where the seasons take them
Beyblade (2001)
White Tigers
Food derails him before blading does — he loses an early skirmish because Mariah dangles the thought of a meal in front of him mid-match — but when it matters against Max in the Asian final he channels his temper into raw force and grinds out the win. In Russia he can't repeat it, going down to Emily in a team battle against the All Starz, and then Kai's Black Dranzer takes Galzzly from him entirely during the Demolition Boys exhibition. He spends the rest of the arc without his bit-beast, getting Galzzly back only once Tyson finally beats Tala in the World final.
Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)
White Tiger X
He's back at Lee's side for the new tournament but spends most of it out of the spotlight, more often paired with Kevin off to one side than actually competing. When Boris's BEGA becomes the real threat, he's part of the larger push — alongside Lee, Mariah, Kevin and bladers from rival teams — to fold into Tyson's side and take the new league down, and even though that formal alliance never quite comes together, he stays committed as one of Tyson's allies through to the end.
Briefing
What to know
- Fights with the bear-based bit-beast Galzzly, unlike the rest of the feline-themed White Tigers.
- Loses an early match after teammate Mariah distracts him by mentioning food.
- Loses Galzzly when Kai's Black Dranzer overwhelms the entire White Tigers team in Russia, recovering it after the season finale.
- Has a lasting crush on Mariah and generally takes orders from her.
- Uses anger as a power source to strengthen his Beyblade in battle.
- Rejoins the story in G-Revolution mainly to support Tyson's team against BEGA rather than to battle directly.
- His Japanese name 'Gaou' means 'growl,' referencing the sound of a bear, and can also imply 'tall.'

- Max Tate Their Asian Tournament final is a straightforward clash of styles, Gary's brute force against Max's stubborn defence, and though Gary wins narrowly, the fight sets the tone for how differently the two of them approach the sport.
- LeeMariahKevin White Tigers
- Ray Kon He doesn't carry Lee's grudge against Ray for leaving the village, and once Ray returns to lead White Tiger X, Gary falls back into the team without any of the friction that colors Lee's side of it.
