Biography
Carlos — Makoto Hiruta in Japan — is the first opponent of the series, a Blade Sharks bully who takes the Beyblades of everyone he beats, under Kai's protection, until Tyson calls him out in the opening episode. He blades a Spin Cutter off an outlawed triple-launcher rig and has nothing resembling a bit-beast. Tyson beats him, makes him return everything he has taken, and embarrasses him in front of his own captain — the spark for the whole rivalry with Kai. He turns up again in the regional qualifier and loses on an obstacle dish. Years later, in the Metal Fight manga, an older Carlos is a respected local blader who mentors a rising Daichi Sumeragi, loses to him twice, and starts to think the boy might finally beat his idol.

Beyblade (2001)
Blade Sharks
Carlos opens the series already running a small racket for the Blade Sharks, taking Andrew's beyblade off him and stuffing a bag full of other kids' prizes. Tyson calls him out over it, and their riverside battle is winner-take-all: Tyson's new jumping launch catches him off guard and Carlos tries to bolt with the bag anyway. He freezes when Kai appears on the hill above them, and Kai's response — calling him weak and knocking him down with a slap — does more damage to Carlos than the loss itself. He resurfaces later in the Japanese regional qualifier running an illegal blade rigged with hidden blades, and loses to Tyson again just the same.
