About This Part
Libra is a circular Wheel Takara Tomy released for the Metal System, debuting in Japan with the BB-18 Booster Libra DF145BS on October 23rd, 2008; many shallow notches ring its perimeter, and it weighs noticeably more than its Metal System contemporaries. Four separate molds exist: the original, hollow-underside casting that shipped with early BB-18 prints and is prone to cracking; a second casting, filling in part of that hollow, used in later BB-18 prints and the BB-22 Bey Custom Set Stamina & Defense Type; a third casting from BB-25 Random Booster Vol. 2 Legend Pisces that reinforces four more sections against breakage; and a fourth casting, released two years later in the BB-96 Beyblade Super Deck, that smooths over the reinforced sections at the cost of higher recoil risk.
In Play
For years Libra was close to mandatory in Defense play: MF-H Libra BD145RS combined its heavy weight with a Metal Face and BD145 Track for near-unbeatable KO resistance, and it also carried the era's only genuinely competitive Balance combination, MF Libra CH120RF. Its rounded, weighty build so dominated the 2008-2009 metagame that the WBBA introduced a 47-gram tournament weight limit in April 2009 to blunt Metal Face Libra builds, and the WBO went further, banning Libra from tournament play outright on May 7th, 2010 before lifting that ban on February 25th, 2011 once newer Fusion Wheels such as Hell and Basalt had already overtaken it.
- Debuted in Japan with the BB-18 Booster Libra DF145BS on October 23rd, 2008.
- A second mold followed in later BB-18 prints and in the BB-22 Bey Custom Set Stamina & Defense Type.
- A third mold, with reinforced sections, released inside BB-25 Random Booster Vol. 2 Legend Pisces.
- A fourth mold released in the BB-96 Beyblade Super Deck, two years after the BB-18 Booster.
- The WBBA set a 47-gram tournament weight limit in April 2009.
- The WBO banned Libra from tournament play on May 7th, 2010.
- The WBO lifted that ban on February 25th, 2011.
- Two prototype molds were never released, one of them visible in promotional art for BB-25 Random Booster Vol. 2 Legend Pisces.
- The Infinity Fusion Wheel, also called Thunder, takes its shape from Libra.
- Libra is the only Metal Series part to face both a WBBA rule change and a WBO tournament ban.
