About This Part

Wide Ball, or WB, is a Takara Tomy Performance Tip released as part of the Hybrid Wheel System, debuting in Japan on March 28, 2009 with the BB-30 Starter Rock Leone 145WB and reaching the West in August 2010 through the matching starter pack. Weighing 0.6 grams with a full width of 15.73 mm, it is simply a plain Ball tip scaled up to a wider surface, and Takara Tomy's own listing says it can rock hard on an angle without tipping over. That extra surface gives it more defensive presence than plain Ball, but it also stirs up more movement, which works against it when an Attack-type opponent is looking for a knockout.

In Play

Wide Ball once led the field for Defense-type combinations, but the community now sees it as outclassed by later tips such as Coating Spike and Rubber Spike, leaving it mainly a collector's item today.
