About This Part
Wave Wide Defense, or W2D, is a Takara Tomy Performance Tip that debuted in Japan on March 26th, 2011 with the BB-106 Starter Fang Leone 130W2D, reaching the West in May 2012 through the B-147 Starter Pack Fang Leone 130W2D. It builds on Wide Defense by adding a raised spike at the centre of its otherwise flat surface, a change meant to squeeze a bit more raw stamina and better life-after-death out of the design, particularly in matches against opposite-spinning opponents.
In Play
The trade-off is that the added spike wears down quickly, making the tip behave more aggressively as a match goes on than its Wide Defense predecessor.
- Debuted in Japan on March 26th, 2011 with BB-106 Starter Fang Leone 130W2D.
- Reached western countries in May 2012 with the B-147 Starter Pack Fang Leone 130W2D.
