About This Part
Hole Flat/Spike, also called Hole Flat/Sharp, is a Performance Tip Takara Tomy debuted in Japan on May 23, 2009 with Random Booster Light Vol. 2, reaching western countries in August 2010 through the BB-37 Starter Pack Storm Aquario 100HF/S. At release it stood taller than any other tip on the market, and it carries a switchable design: pulling the base up and twisting its lower section changes it from a Hole Flat shape into a Spike, letting a blader adjust strategy mid-match.
In Play
Both of its modes carry drawbacks, since the taller Spike mode struggles with balance while the taller Hole Flat mode has stability issues of its own, and the community considers it outclassed once 4D Bottoms and later tips arrived, leaving it recommended mainly for a collection.
- Debuted in Japan on May 23, 2009 with Random Booster Light Vol. 2.
- Reached western countries in August 2010 with the BB-37 Starter Pack Storm Aquario 100HF/S.
- It was the only Metal-era Performance Tip with two distinct sets of stats depending on which mode it was set to, before Delta Drive introduced a similar switching gimmick.
- Its mode-switching is considered comparable in function to Auto Change Base and Manual Change Core from the Original Series and to Trans and its variants from the Burst Series.
