About This Part
Defense Spike, also written Defense Sharp and abbreviated DS, is a Performance Tip Takara Tomy released in Japan on December 28, 2010 with the BB-99 Maximum Series Starter Hell Kerbecs BD145DS. It is built by hollowing out a Defense tip and fitting a Spike tip inside the resulting gap, a construction meant to add centrifugal force to the part's spin, though that effect turns out to be minor. It keeps its balance in the manner typical of Defense Type tips.

Competitive bladers see little reason to reach for Defense Spike when Coating Spike, Defense, and Wide Defense all cover the same Stamina-and-Defense ground more effectively, so the community treats it mainly as a collector's piece.
