About This Part
Griffolyon Base is a Blade Base from the Spin Gear System that debuted with Griffolyon in July 2001, and it is not legal for World Beyblade Organization-sanctioned play. It carries an integrated Spin Gear in the manner later seen on 4-Layer Beyblades, with a tall, narrow, rounded tip mounted on a separate cylindrical body that allows a small amount of friction-limited free-spin rather than sitting fixed on the base. Downward poles meant to hold the Hidden Spirit line's included figurine scrape easily and stick out past the base's round outline, producing heavy Recoil, and Hasbro's release removes those poles while leaving their mounting points in place.
In Play
Between its poor balance, near-nonexistent Defense, and the severe Recoil created by the figurine-mounting poles, the community treats it as a strong candidate for the worst Blade Base of the entire plastic generation, useless even before its tournament ban is considered; the Hasbro mold is only marginally better for having removed the poles.
- Released with Griffolyon in July 2001.
- Hasbro's release removes the figurine-mounting poles while leaving their base points in place.
