- Metal Weight Cores remained common in Takara Tomy releases even after Hasbro largely switched to Magnecores.
Term · Original series
Cores are weight inserts fitted inside NEO Spin Gears, taking the place of the metal ring used in Standard Spin Gears, and their added mass sits at the centre of the top to boost spin velocity in compact setups or add stability in defensive ones. The category splits into three main kinds: Magnecores, which are magnetic and further divided into South Pole and North Pole variants; Metal Weight Cores, which are non-magnetic weight blocks heavier than a standard gear but lighter than a Magnecore; and Heavy Metal Cores, the heaviest of the three, made entirely of metal. Implemented in December 2001 as part of the Magnacore System, Cores were engineered to work with Blade Bases from that same system, and the Heavy Metal Core specifically arrived alongside the Engine Gear System despite being built for Magnacore compatibility. What varies between individual Cores is chiefly polarity, for Magnecores, and material weight, both of which push a build toward faster, more erratic movement or toward a heavier, harder-to-shift stance.
