Toby is the childhood best friend of Masamune Kadoya and Zeo Abyss and the original leader of Team Dungeon before a fatal illness struck him down. Desperate to save him, Zeo turned to Dr. Ziggurat, whose Hades Inc. Arrangement System cured Toby's body but hypnotized him into the alter ego Faust, an intended power source for the villainous Spiral Force. Freed by Masamune and Zeo, Toby rejoins Team Dungeon in Metal Fury wielding a hand-built Spiral Lyra, fighting through the Destroyer Dome and the final battle against Nemesis. Kind and relentlessly optimistic even while dying, he never regains a stated surname.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Toby is small and skinny for a teenager. Before his transformation he had long brown hair, indigo eyes and a plain turquoise hospital shirt; restored from being Faust, his hair turns grey and shoulder-length while his eyes regain their usual colour, and by the Japanese ending of Shogun Steel it is brown again. As Faust he wears a purple button-up under an unzipped white jacket, dark grey trousers matching his undershirt in purple around the pelvis, thigh bands with yellow buckles echoing his jacket zip, grey gloves and a necklace-like headband. In Metal Fury he wears a light brown jacket with rolled-up sleeves over a black hoodie, with brown trousers hanging over his shoes.

Toby is kind and loving by nature, quick to offer friendship to anyone, and he bonds with Zeo and Masamune almost instantly over their shared love of Beyblade. Optimism runs deep in him too — even while dying he manages a smile for his friends, determined not to let them see his despair. He's also remarkably forgiving, pardoning Zeo for mistakenly handing him over to Ziggurat and forgiving Masamune for walking away without explanation.

As Faust he held Masamune and Zeo together to a draw, and as himself he fights on sheer optimism, though his solo results are thin.
