Biography

Bruce Granger — Tatsuya Kinomiya in Japan — is Tyson and Hiro's father and Ryu Granger's son, an archaeologist whose fieldwork keeps him away for long stretches, which is why the boys were raised at their grandfather's dojo. Hiro sometimes goes with him. He surfaces only near the end of the first series: first as a recorded lecture reaching the team in London, sharing what his digs have turned up about where bit-beasts came from, and then in person during the Russian arc, where what he knows about Boris and Voltaire helps the adults work out what is really being attempted. He is warm and distant at once, and matters more for what he explains than for anything he does.

Where the seasons take them

Beyblade (2001)

He surfaces for the first time as a recorded lecture reaching the team in London, a voice from the dig sites explaining what his research has turned up about where bit-beasts actually come from. He doesn't appear in person until just before the World final in Russia, arriving alongside his own father to help the adults piece together what Boris and Voltaire are really after. He never blades himself; what he offers is context the boys couldn't get anywhere else, delivered in the same distracted, affectionate way he's spent their whole childhood being absent.
