Biography

Rantaro Kiyama, called Head Honcho in English, is Valt Aoi's best friend and the tritagonist of the original Beyblade Burst anime and manga, later a BC Sol member in Evolution and a coach for the Comets in Surge. Loud, simple-minded but deeply honest, he wants to seem tough while actually being a softie who cheers his teammates on. He starts with Roktavor Heavy Survive/Raging Roktavor, hands that Beyblade down to his younger brother Ranjiro when he upgrades to Berserk Roktavor for BC Sol, and later fights with Glide Roktavor Wheel Revolve 1S in Surge.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Tall for his age with fair skin, blonde hair styled into a pompadour and brown eyes, Rantaro carries a bandage across the bridge of his nose, keeps an orange-and-red lollipop in his mouth and never goes far without a large white paper fan. Through Burst and Burst Evolution he wears a black gakuran jacket slung over his shoulders like a cape, a dark-red tank top beneath it, black gakuran trousers, a white sash for a belt and brown laceless shoes, tucking comic books, CoroCoro issues in the manga, into his waistband when he battles. By Surge the same gakuran has a red lining and gold buttons, paired with an orange dress shirt, a blue sash and brown dress shoes.

Rantaro carries himself with total self-assurance, styling himself the Head Honcho and slipping past his school's strict rules with ease. He can be dense, missing Valt's distress over Shu's injury or Ken's loneliness, yet he is honest and holds a firm sense of right and wrong, wearing every emotion openly much like Valt Aoi. He wants to look tough but is soft-hearted underneath, usually first to rally his teammates and comfort them afterward, and he gets on well with younger kids, foreshadowing his bond with Ranjiro. His greatest fear, oddly, is unicorns, and he hates being told his jacket looks like a cape. By Surge he has grown wiser and more responsible, coaching Hikaru and Hyuga with patience, taking the blame himself when Hyuga goes missing, and later sacrificing his own bey to save Silas.
