Biography

Hilary Tachibana — Hiromi in Japan — is Tyson's bossy class representative, introduced in V-Force as the girl who thinks Beyblade is a waste of time and ending up the team's most vocal supporter. Seeing a bit-beast for the first time is what turns her, and she has no bit-beast of her own and never blades competitively; what she becomes is the group's organiser, scold, occasional conscience and coach in all but name — the back-to-basics training that unlocks the Magnacore System is her idea. Being kidnapped alongside Kenny early in V-Force pulls her into the story for good. The prickly exterior covers real loyalty, and when BEGA takes the sport over she and Kenny are the only two of the originals still standing with Tyson.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Brown hair to her shoulders and brown eyes. V-Force puts her in a pink shirt over a black tank top with a short white skirt and red trainers; G-Revolution keeps the hair, adds a short ponytail and swaps to a short orange coat over blue, a yellow skirt and orange trainers. By the BEGA arc she is in a black shirt, denim shorts and brown combat boots with yellow laces, the orange jacket now hooded.

Introduced as stubborn and a tomboy, and loud with it. She is class president and takes the job seriously enough to use it — the whole class can be turned on Tyson, and frequently is, usually leaving him behind to clean the room alone. She argues with him constantly through the second season. Under it she is kind and completely loyal; before the Bladebreakers she had friends but nobody close. G-Revolution settles her down into something more responsible, if not less violent.

Story by season

Where the seasons take them

Beyblade V-Force (2002)

Bladebreakers (supporter/manager)

Tyson's post-championship slacking off puts Hilary, the class representative, directly in his face, and her contempt for Beyblading as a waste of time only starts cracking once she watches his rematch with Ozuma and finally sees a bit-beast for herself. Curiosity turns into involvement fast: Team Psykick's ambush strands the group on an island, and it is Hilary who steers her half of the team to the lighthouse and gets word out to Mr. Dickenson while Tyson's half fights it out. By the tag-team World Championships she has gone from reluctant tag-along to the one recommending how the pairs should even be split up.

Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)

BBA Revolution / G Revolutions (supporter)

Nearly every original teammate scatters to other squads this season, and Hilary steps fully into the role she had only been trying on before: the one running training camp, keeping Tyson focused, and refusing to leave even when the roster around her keeps shrinking. Her back-to-basics coaching is what eventually unlocks the Magnacore System that carries the reformed team through BEGA, proof that her insistence on discipline was never just nagging. Through the championship and into the Justice 5, she and Kenny end up the last two originals still standing at Tyson's side, managing a fight neither of them can actually blade in.

Briefing

What to know

  • Does not own a Bit-Beast and never becomes an official Blader, functioning instead as team manager and secondary trainer.
  • Class president at Tyson and Kenny's school; enforces discipline on Tyson both there and within the team.
  • Becomes the first person to spot the invisible Saint Shields' Bit-Beasts after struggling to see any Bit-Beast at all.
  • Her 'back to basics' training routine helps the Bladebreakers master the Magnacore System.
  • One of only two team members, alongside Kenny, who stay with Tyson after the rest of the Bladebreakers scatter in G-Revolution.
  • Anime-exclusive — she never appears in the manga.
  • Attempts to use a stolen Hopper Beyblade once in G-Revolution, with disastrous results.

Quotes

In Their Own Words

  • That was rude!
  • I have plenty of heart!
  • I can't believe we got kicked out. How embarrassing is that? Now what?
  • Like this?
  • Tyson, stop being such a bully!
  • You're new here. Let me explain, it's not very polite to Beyblade in a public pool,
  • Okay.
  • Oh, Bit Beast, oh, Bit Beast, oh, Bit Beast, oh, Bit Beast, oh Bit Beast...
  • Hey, take that back...NOW!
  • Wow! That's so deep! For a minute there, you sounded...smart.
