About This Part
The Heavy Metal Core, abbreviated HMC, is a Spin Gear System core found in the Takara Tomy release of Metal Driger, debuting with that Beyblade in January 2003. Cast entirely from metal, it weighs 9 grams, making it the heaviest core in the line, 3 grams over the MG Core, and its Hasbro counterpart trades the core out for an Engine Gear instead.
In Play
Its added mass makes the Heavy Metal Core a pick for compact or defence-oriented combinations, and its weight is cited as the main reason competitive collectors sought out Metal Driger.
- Debuted with the Takara Tomy release of Metal Driger in January 2003.
- At 9 grams, it outweighs the MG Core by 3 grams.
Collector's Note
The heaviest Neo-compatible core available, and never released by Hasbro, to fan frustration. Its weight makes it invaluable wherever RPM retention and mass matter: Compacts, Weight Based Defense, Force Smash, Traditional Upper Attack, and most Driger V2 combos (which lean on Upper Attack offensively and benefit defensively from the extra weight). It also works for Attack types, generally pairing best with heavier-hitting attack rings that benefit from rotational-recoil control (e.g. Square Edge), though it can be too slow for lighter, more traditional Smash Attack setups. Called an essential, must-have part that justifies the community's frustration over its Hasbro omission. Used on the Takara/SonoKong release of Metal Driger.
