The card in every Hasbro Beyblade box

From Metal Fusion to BeyRaiderz, every Hasbro Beyblade came with a small card: the Bey on the front, and on the back a single-use code for BeybladeBattles.com. The codes are dead now and the cards were mostly thrown away. Nobody had ever listed them all, so this is that list.

What these cards are

How the site worked

The card was the key to Hasbro's online game. Each one carried a fourteen-digit code, good once, that opened a Battle Active slot at BeybladeBattles.com, so you could take a Bey you had built into live battles against other players. Without a code you could still build tops and fight the computer. Hasbro's 2011 annual report counted ten million registered users, who battled more than 26 million times that year.

There was one card per Bey: a starter pack held one, a two-pack two, a gift set four. The front shows the Bey with the product number printed on its box, its combo and its type. The early Metal Fusion cards show the Bey's owner from the anime instead, and fold open to show the parts. From Metal Fury on the cards are flat, about 47 × 64 mm, smaller than a trading card.

No card was a chase card. Hasbro printed exactly one for each Bey it sold. What makes them scarce now is survival: once the code was used, most went in the bin with the packaging.

How this list was built

Seen, or expected

No checklist of these cards has ever been published, and Hasbro's own list lived inside the Flash game and was never archived. So every card here carries one of two labels.

Seen means the card turns up in a photograph of a real card, in a collector's listing or post; the card's page names the photographs. Expected means a Hasbro product held that Bey, and every Bey in a Hasbro box came with a card, but no photograph of this one has been found yet. Where the product number of a card inside a gift set or battle set is not recorded, that card is listed on its own rather than assumed to be the single's card again. A photograph can merge two entries later, but a card merged away by guesswork is lost.

One well-known Reddit set of "all the Metal Fusion cards" is fan art, redrawn in Hasbro's layout by its maker, and nothing here rests on it.

Where a photograph shows the back, the card's own part number is recorded with it — 24 so far. Hasbro gave each card its own, so it is the one thing that tells two cards of the same Beyblade apart: SS-20 and SS-20A Bandit Golem carry different numbers, while two copies of SS-20A in the same lot carry the same one. If you are holding a loose card, the number on the back is how to find it here.

Each card is drawn from its facts until the site photographs it. The codes on the backs are never recorded here: they are dead, but they were someone's.

What is still unknown

  • The full run of Metal Fusion character cards: which Beys got a portrait, which the group picture, and whether every re-release changed it.
  • The product numbers of the cards packed in gift sets and battle sets, which is what would show whether each is its own card or the single's card again.
  • The backs of the Legend, Extreme Top System, BeyWheelz and BeyWarriors cards, which no photograph found so far shows.
  • Whether the gold borders of the Legend and Hyperblades cards are real foil or metallic ink.
  • Whether any card before BeyRaiderz was printed in French or Spanish for Canada or Latin America.
