Fly-wheel effect

Players use this label for the way a spinning top loses less energy to air resistance as its outer profile gets smoother and rounder. Round, low-profile Fusion Wheels such as Duo, Phantom, Scythe, Burn, and Thermal, and to a lesser extent Earth, cut drag most effectively, letting a top hold its spin longer. Wheels with heavy ridges and protrusions, Variares and Blitz among them, still benefit somewhat, but the extra surface area drags on stamina compared with a smoother shape. The concept matters most for Stamina-Type builds, where every bit of retained spin adds to survival time, though any Beyblade gains something from a rounder profile.

What to know

  • Describes reduced air resistance on a spinning top as its shape becomes rounder and more streamlined.
  • Round, flat Fusion Wheels (Duo, Phantom, Scythe, Burn, Thermal, and to a lesser extent Earth) benefit most.
  • Wheels with ridges or bumps, such as Variares and Blitz, gain less from the effect.
  • Matters most for Stamina-Type combinations, where retained spin translates into longer survival in the stadium.

  • Variares loses some benefit from the effect thanks to its ridged shape, despite being built for Attack rather than Stamina.
