4 Layer System

English-speaking fans coined this name for the earliest Beyblade construction method, used before Takara Tomy's Spin Gear line took over. Takara never assigned the system a proper name itself, so both this label and "Initial Type" circulate among collectors describing the same parts. Every top built this way shares four stacked pieces — a chip on top, a contact ring, a weight disc, and a base — making the whole line mechanically uniform. Hasbro's own catalogue quietly folds these early releases into the Spin Gear line rather than treating them as their own thing.

Attributed, not verified by us

  • The naming came from fan translation of packaging copy, not from a Takara Tomy label
  • The chip component was renamed from Character Chip to Bit Chip partway through Takara's run of releases, with the newer name later applied to reprints such as Ultimate Dragoon
