Biography

Wakiya Murasaki, known in Japan as Wakiya Komurasaki, is a wealthy, self-confident rival who joins Valt's Beigoma Academy BeyClub after being beaten by him, later founding and leading the Spanish team Sunbat United. His overconfidence and sense of entitlement soften over the series into loyalty and hidden kindness, especially toward his childhood friend Hoji Konda and Valt's younger siblings. He eventually becomes WBBA Commissioner and a recurring tournament host in later seasons, all while carrying a persistent, plot-relevant fear of heights.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Wakiya is tall for his age, with sharply slanted blue eyes and spiky blond hair worn in a ponytail. His usual outfit is a purple jacket bearing a red Wyvern emblem and gold shoulder spikes, worn over purple trousers with a silver-"W" belt, black knee-boots and black-and-yellow fingerless gloves. In Surge he trades that jacket for a purple tuxedo over a pink dress shirt and black tie, topped with a black coat lined in pink and buttoned in gold, and he stops wearing gloves altogether. By QuadDrive the look shifts again to a white dress shirt with a red ascot under a dark-purple vest, black trousers striped in yellow, and a purple cloak patterned with pink cross-lines and gold shoulder spikes, still carrying the red Wyvern design on the back.

Wakiya carries himself with sharp self-confidence and a competitive, analytical mind, and that same self-belief cuts both ways: it wins him plenty of battles but also leads him to write off opponents, as when he dismisses Valt as merely lucky only to lose to him later. Raised to get his own way with busy, largely absent parents, he can be bossy and entitled, and his bluntness repeatedly puts him at odds with Rantaro even after he accepts Valt as team captain. Failure stings him badly, and his pride can blind him to his own weaknesses. Underneath it, though, he has a genuinely kind streak, especially toward his friend Hoji, and mellows over the series into someone fiercely protective of the people around him. He is also afraid of heights, a fear the series returns to more than once.
