Biography

Tetsuya Watarigani is a crab-obsessed cheat whose comic exterior hides real pain: after protecting his best friend Echizen from a bully and being abandoned mid-beating, he turned bitter, vowing to make every blader suffer as he did. He battles Gingka repeatedly with dirty tricks using Mad Gasher and its Dark Nebula upgrade, Dark Gasher, eventually losing his spirit to L-Drago at Battle Bladers. Despite constant scheming and failure, he mellows by the finale, cheering Gingka's victory over Ryuga.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Tetsuya's hair is long, dark green and messily frayed at the ends. Over a long brown shirt he wears a small pale lavender vest patterned with dull blue circles and finished with a dull blue hem. A cape shaped to resemble a crab's shell hangs from his shoulders, and he completes the outfit with dark blue trousers and grey-and-white shoes.

Tetsuya comes across as irritating even to the people around him, and Gingka's group finds his manner outright strange. He cheats readily in battle, tacking "crabby" onto his sentences and reaching for crab puns, though his tricks rarely save him from losing. Despite modest battling talent, he is genuinely sharp and adaptable, switching tactics mid-fight against tough opponents and manipulating people off the field, convincing Hikaru that Kenta had lied to her and winning grudging trust from the Face-Hunters before Kyoya returned. He was gentler as a boy, devoted to his friend Echizen, until Echizen fled from Taraba in fear; Tetsuya then dropped every soft feeling, cheating and scratching rival Beys with his own Mad Gasher and working against Gingka at every turn, even joining Dark Nebula to take him down. After his spirit passed into Ryuga, he came away with real respect for Gingka.
