Biography

Ryutaro Fukami is a fortune-telling Dark Nebula blader who fights with Thermal Pisces T125ES and holds a fatalistic belief that the future cannot be changed. Defeated by Gingka Hagane's new Storm Bringer move and later recruited into Dark Nebula by Ryuga, he ultimately loses a Battle Bladers rematch against Gingka after an escalating mind-game battle, freeing him to rejoin the reformed group of former villains celebrating Gingka's final victory.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Fair-skinned and Japanese, Ryutaro wears dark blue hair along with violet lipstick on his lower lip and pink markings beneath his turquoise eyes. His clothing takes its cues from a traditional yukata and hakama but is cut in a more Western style, finished with a number of leather belts and shoes with an unusually high sole. He's rarely without his fan.

Ryutaro keeps up a humble front despite being genuinely arrogant and self-absorbed, speaking in an overly polite, old-fashioned way and rarely voicing criticism outright. A sense of superiority runs through him, tied partly to his gift for foreseeing the future, and he's usually smiling as he gestures with his fan — nearly everything about him draws on Japanese tradition. He holds fast to the belief that fate is fixed, and challenges to that conviction rattle him into stammering, something his fights with Gingka eventually loosen. He can hurt people without much guilt, yet isn't cruel by nature: he calls out Doji over the Dark Nebula's inhumane punishments, even though he can't quite walk away from the organisation and instead tries to protect himself by beating Gingka as hard as he can.

Thermal Pisces wins with heat-haze illusions and mind games rather than force, enough to beat Teru but twice undone by Gingka.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • His attack chant in the original Japanese is 'Akki Taisan' ('Evil spirits, begone!'), rather than the English dub's 'Good luck come my way.'
  • His powers are explicitly based on the real practice of Onmyodo, which he references directly in the movie.
  • Series creator Takafumi Adachi nicknamed the informal trio of Tobio, Ryutaro, and Tetsuya the 'Death Stream Scissors' at a fan's request.
  • He was redesigned for the anime adaptation, differing from his original manga appearance.
