Biography

Reiji Mizuchi is the Dark Nebula's second-strongest Blader after Ryuga in Beyblade: Metal Fusion, a sinister, snake-eyed teen assigned first to spy on Gingka Hagane and later to torment opponents at the Battle Bladers tournament with his Poison Serpent SW145SD. He toys sadistically with weaker foes like Hyoma before finishing them, feeding on the fear he inspires, and is only truly rattled when Gingka refuses to be scared and keeps smiling through the fight. Gingka ultimately breaks his composure and defeats him in the semifinals, ending his run for good — he's the only Metal Fusion villain who never redeems himself.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Pale and skinny, Reiji has red hair marked by a blonde streak through his bangs, and bright yellow eyes that rarely show since his fringe hangs over them, taking on a serpentine look whenever they dilate. He wears a long blue shirt with a snake-scale pattern along the hem and matching scales on the cuffs, belted with a dark brown strap crossed twice at the front, and plain black jeans. Snake-eye-shaped clips hold parts of his hair in place. He tends to walk with a sloppy, wavering gait rather than standing up straight, and when he talks he points and gestures in exaggerated ways.

Reiji's personality shifts sharply once a battle begins. Outside of Bey battles he rarely speaks, seeming content just to watch what goes on around him, and even mid-battle he stays quiet until things heat up, at which point his real nature comes out. That nature is a sadistic one: he would rather toy cruelly with an opponent than finish a fight quickly, and the fear he causes in others is what he actually enjoys. A battling style built on fun and friendship baffles him completely, Gingka having a good time while fighting him unsettles Reiji badly, and even the idea of the Blader's Spirit seems to cause him real physical pain in the form of headaches.

  • Assigned by Doji to secretly observe Gingka Hagane's Storm Pegasus before the tournament.

  • His Special Move, Venom Strike, is classified as a 'Dark Move' like Ryuga's.
  • The only Dark Nebula member besides Doji who never redeems himself.

Quotes

In Their Own Words

  • This can't be the end of this; entertain me more, pretty please. At this point, there's no fun in breaking you.
  • You've started to fall apart nicely: more, struggle more, more! Become more frightened and don't give up! If you stop trying, you'll become nothing just like that worthless Bey.
  • Now that was a fun battle.
  • The losers become food for the Dragon.
  • But before that, I need your help. You don't mind helping me with my warm-up, do you little buddy?
  • It looks like the poison has taken effect.
  • Even now, Poison Serpent's poison is working its way through Libra: if you do nothing, if you don't try to attack, you will definitely end-up with a sleep-out.
  • Even a tiny fragment lost is a fatal wound for a Bey; this loss causes the Bey to lose its balance and its power is gradually drained away. It's as if a snake's poison was circulating through it's entire body!
  • The reality is, without using my full strength, your power has been completely drained. That's the taste of sssadnesss...seeing your precious Bey cut-up right before your eyes can't be fun?
  • Well, shall I pull an end to this now?

Claims We Could Not Check

  • His name plays on 'Reiji,' a common Japanese given name, and 'Mizuchi,' a serpentine dragon of legend.
  • Possibly a nod to the snake character Reggie from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • The only Metal Fusion character never to appear meaningfully in Metal Masters or Metal Fury.
  • Second Blader shown using a Dark Move, after Ryuga.
  • Along with Ryuga, one of only two Bladers absent from Battle Bladers' opening ceremony.
