Biography

Rasputin is a minor, anime-only character from the original 2000 Beyblade series, drawing on the name of the real historical mystic. According to Boris Balkov, this evil monk plunged Russia into chaos centuries ago and forged one of the most dangerous Beyblades ever made, Black Dranzer, using black magic — a Beyblade so volatile that no one could master it until it reached Kai Hiwatari. His soul is implied to have been twisted by the same corrupting power Black Dranzer later tries to use against Kai. Every reference to him was cut from the English dub.

No Blader Profile yet: nothing we hold describes how Rasputin actually battles, and we rate from results on screen or on the page, not from a guess.

Briefing

What to know

  • Created Black Dranzer centuries ago through black magic, per Boris Balkov's account.
  • Black Dranzer's corrupting influence on its owners is implied to have driven Rasputin's own downfall.
  • Boris Balkov later possesses Black Dranzer, though how he obtained it is never explained.
  • Black Dranzer eventually falls into Kai Hiwatari's hands and nearly claims him the same way.
  • Kai resists the Beyblade's temptation by choosing his own heart over its power.
  • Entirely absent from the English dub — every mention of him was removed.

  • Almost certainly named after the real historical Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin.
  • Cut entirely from the English dub, unlike most anime-exclusive characters who are merely renamed.
