Biography

Lain Valhalla is the main antagonist of Beyblade Burst Surge, a self-taught prodigy driven by an unstoppable dark power called Flare that grows every time he wins or loses to a worthy foe. Recruited by legend Shu Kurenai to rein in his violence, he instead grows stronger and more contemptuous of everyone but Valt Aoi and Aiger Akabane, upgrading his bey from Origin Uranus into the far more dangerous Vex Lucius. He defeats Valt and later Shu, evolving into Lucius Endbringer, but a climactic tag battle finally lets him feel genuine excitement for Beyblade and begin to change.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Tall and pale-skinned, he has thinly ringed yellow eyes, pointed incisors, magenta markings across his face, and spiked magenta hair streaked with lighter pink. His usual outfit is a dark-blue sweatshirt with light-blue detailing and a mint-green fur collar, worn over indigo trousers, with red boots trimmed in mint green and pale rose soles. Red-buckled violet belts wrap around each arm and thigh, a harness-style violet belt with red buckles and studs crosses his torso, and a dark-red, square-cuffed fingerless glove covers his left hand. Away from battle he wears a black coat fastened with violet buttons and red-buckled straps across the chest. Resonating with his Beyblade lights up his eyes and facial markings, and as his power builds the pink in his hair glows cyan while the belts snap loose.

Calm and withdrawn away from the stadium, he keeps largely to himself, but that stillness hides a restless, dangerous drive he calls his Flare, which turns him openly hostile once a match starts — growling, roaring, and threatening rivals with real menace, including some of the sport's most respected names. Anyone he judges unable to match that intensity gets dismissed outright, and even beating someone rarely holds his interest for long once it is done. His rare losses provoke real fury and open threats of payback, and destroying an opponent seems to satisfy him more than simply winning. A pet hedgehog is one of very few things that draws out real tenderness in him. Over time, hard-fought battles against people who challenge him chip away at that isolation, and he slowly comes to value connection and rivalry over conquest.

Flare makes him stronger with every fight, enough to beat Lui, Aiger, Valt and Shu, but contempt for everyone leaves him beatable by a real team.

Briefing

What to know
