Biography

Doji, Daidoji in Japan, is the recurring mastermind behind Dark Nebula across the Metal Saga, having stolen the Forbidden Bey Lightning L-Drago with Ryuga and raised him as a weapon under orders from his true boss, Dr. Ziggurat. Polished and condescending, he manipulates Kyoya, exploits Yu, and stages Battle Bladers purely to feed power to Ryuga's L-Drago, only for Ryuga to turn on him and shatter his Bey and soul. Crippled by that attack, he resurfaces in Metal Fury allied with Pluto's Nemesis cult, then returns a third time in Shogun Steel as a digitized consciousness leading DNA, finally destroyed after a special-move combo defeats his mech body.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Doji carries himself like a well-heeled executive, favouring a purple suit, red tie and hexagonal glasses that give him a polished, intelligent look. A comb rides in his breast pocket, brought out repeatedly to groom the single golden streak running through his otherwise dark hair. Metal Fury reworks the look considerably: the glasses give way to a monocle, a scar and stray hair cover his other eye, and he leans on a cane. His wardrobe turns old-fashioned, built around a long grey coat and a frilly white cravat, while his hair lightens from black to grey. When his hologram resurfaces in Shogun Steel, it reverts to his original season-one look.

Doji rarely drops his composure, even facing formidable rivals like Gingka, and he hides his true strength from children such as Kenta. Cruelty runs deep in him: he punishes failing members of the Dark Nebula by feeding their strength to Lightning L-Drago. Ambition never wavers either — he works every angle his intellect affords him, speaking with a courteous veneer that barely masks his contempt for those he considers beneath him, often calling people 'my friend' in a mocking tone. He delights in provoking rivals, laughing at Ryuga's fury after goading him, and he keeps nearly everyone at arm's length, reserving genuine respect only for the strongest bladers. Privately, an odd obsession with cacti hints at a man fixated on things forever out of reach, and he abandons allies the moment they stop being useful.
