Coach Steel owns the Dungeon Gym in the United States, training bladers with brutally repetitive "Shadow Launch" drills of 300-500 reps in Metal Masters and Metal Fury. Gruff but ultimately kind, he gets exasperated with Masamune Kadoya specifically while remaining friendly to his other trainees, and he personally modifies Masamune's Ray Striker D125CS into Blitz Striker 100RSF. He reappears to watch the Battle Royal in Metal Fury, functioning as one of the few recurring adult mentor figures on the American side of the story.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

A tall, muscular build and dark skin tone stand out immediately, along with a bald head paired with a kept beard. His eyes are dark grey, his eyebrows brown, and he dresses simply in a grey sleeveless shirt, grey gloves and black trousers.

Masamune tests his patience more than most, but he's otherwise warm and easygoing with the kids at his gym. His training philosophy is unapologetically punishing — he'll assign hundreds of "Shadow Launches" in a single session, a workload few trainees enjoy, and treats a good sweat as proof the training is working. Hard work, in his view, is simply non-negotiable.
