About This Part
Sword Dran, known as DranSword in Japan, is a Basic Line Attack Type Blade from Takara Tomy that launched domestically on June 10th, 2023 as the BX-01 Starter and reached the west through a Hasbro Starter Pack. Its three-sided body carries three upward-slanting blades as its main striking edges, and its Gear Chip depicts Seiryu exhaling fire. It was among the first four Blades ever released and the first Attack Type of the line, seeing heavy use in team play from its June 2023 debut through January 2024, when the heavier PhoenixWing Blade gradually took its place.
In Play
During that stretch it also traded blows with the SharkEdge Blade, which hit harder but carried less Stamina; competitive players eventually moved away from DranSword because its three upper blades wore blunt with repeated use, weakening its Smash Attack, and because early copies of the metal frame were prone to shattering. A reinforced mold introduced in January 2024, first shipped with the Sushiro Version and used in every Hasbro release since, weighs over 35 grams and resists breakage better, though the blunting issue persists. The community no longer recommends DranSword for the WBO's X format, since heavier Attack Type Blades have superseded it.
