What to know
- Distinct from Smash Attack: Recoil is a side effect of contact, not the goal of it
- Can cause a self-knockout through Stamina loss
Term · Across generations
Borrowed from the everyday sense of springing back after an impact, Recoil describes a Beyblade getting knocked away from its opponent on contact rather than staying put or knocking the other top out. Heavy contact points tend to cause it most, and the resulting loss of Stamina can be severe enough to cause a self-knockout. Competitive players draw a firm line between Recoil and Smash Attack: Smash Attack aims to knock the opponent out, while Recoil is simply an unwanted side effect of a hit, and the strongest Smash Attack Wheels are usually the ones that manage to avoid suffering it themselves — though in the Burst Series, parts that take on more Recoil can sometimes burst an opponent more easily.
