Burst System

Takara Tomy introduced this system as the backbone of the Beyblade Burst toyline, built around a layer that can burst into its separate parts mid-battle for an extra way to win a match. Layer, Disc and Driver form the standard three-piece structure, with the Layer carrying the contact points and, in Takara Tomy's releases, an NFC chip readable at BeyTerminal arcades in Japan. Six subsystems followed on the Japanese side (Dual Layer, God Layer, Cho-Z, Gatinko, Superking and Dynamite Battle Layer, plus the Burst Ultimate Layer Series), each paired with a Hasbro-exclusive counterpart such as SwitchStrike, SlingShock, HyperSphere, SpeedStorm, QuadDrive and QuadStrike. Hasbro's Burst mechanism relies on friction against a smooth surface rather than plastic teeth, and its colour palettes, paint finishes and sticker-versus-tampograph choices shifted repeatedly across sublines.
