Biography

Kurt Baratier, called Kurz in Japan, is a former World Number 1 Blader who retired from ranked competition after running out of worthy opponents, then formed an underground Bey club that steals Beyblades from bladers it defeats. Wielding Boom Khalzar, he crushes Rantaro Kiyama and beats Valt Aoi in their first meeting, nearly stomping on Valt's Beyblade layer out of contempt, but loses to Shu Kurenai's alter-ego Red Eye. A rematch with Valt in Turbo humbles him further: after losing the World Champion title fight, he becomes respectful, hands Valt a spare tip, and invites him to visit his underground domain any time.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

An unusually tall young man with an angular face reminiscent of Ghasem Madal, Kurt wears his spiked hair in a medium aquamarine broken by a yellow streak at the centre, along with red eyes, purple earrings, red eye-shadow and a purple tattoo on his right arm. A black bodysuit anchors his outfit, topped with a green-metallic, purple-strapped pauldron and matching gauntlets, both marked with purple patterning, plus a green-white fur scarf sewn into the strap. A red-orange cloth with a frilled white cuff wraps his waist on purple straps and carries his launcher holster, while green-metallic coverings run beneath his knees down to green-metallic shoes trimmed in purple. Later on, his hair grows bigger, his pauldron splits into three dark-green segments, and his scarf grows larger and turns lime-white.

Under his Red Eye persona, Kurt shows a mean, indifferent streak much like Shu Kurenai's. Facing Rantaro Kiyama, he lets loose his full strength and leaves Berserk Roktavor scarred by the end of it, and he has a habit of casual destruction, at one point nearly stamping Genesis Valtryek's Layer flat underfoot. That harshness eventually gives way to something gentler: he hands Valt Aoi the Ultimate Reboot tip without any of his earlier ruthlessness, and takes a real interest in him, going so far as to invite him to drop by his underground domain whenever he likes.

  • He flicks his earrings as a pre-battle habit.
  • The Superking manga places his A-Tier rank at number 2, or 17th in the world overall.
  • Shares the 'initials match evolved Bey' trait with eleven other Evolution characters, including Free De La Hoya and Cuza Ackermann.
